After the July 4th weekend, the over the top drinking and partying scene here in Montauk caused local outrage. Officials from the Town of East Hampton met with the citizens of Montauk to review the issues that have made our community a less than ideal place for vacationers and homeowners. This meeting became big news, and was picked up by the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and the New York Post, among many other news outlets. The news media has the weekend party people at odds with the locals, and although oversimplified, this is the bones of the issue. The issues are listed in this article from the Post: http://pagesix.com/2015/08/04/a-holes-arent-welcome-in-montauk/

A citizens group, Montauk United, was formed in July by long-time local resident Tom Bogden, to fight this influx of public rowdiness. This group is looking for signatures on a petition, and you don't have to live in Montauk, or even New York State to sign up. For more information or to sign the petition go to montaukunited.org.
