triathlonThis relatively new sport dates to 1978, even though its individual components are ancient; swimming, cycling, and running. In 1983 a local Montauk motel owner, fisherman, and surfer, Robert Aaron staged one of the first triathlons, the Mighty Montauk. The popular Robert Aaron Memorial Mighty Montauk Triathlon is held every June. Montauk is a perfect place to stage a triathlon, and two others follow, the Sprint Triathlon held in July, and the Mighty Montauk Half Ironman held in October. The Montauk Bike Shop sells equipment and offers advice. |
