This 18-hole public golf course is open all year weather permitting with a $41 fee on weekdays, $46 on weekends (from Memorial Day through Labor Day; out-of-state residents pay $82 on weekdays and $92 on weekends). Twilight rate $24 weekday, $27 weekend; out-of-state pay $48 weekday, $54 weekend. Senior discount available on weekdays only. Summer tee times (May 23 – August 4), 5:30am - 7pm; (August 5 – September 8), 6am - 6:30pm. Call for tee times in the off season as they change during the year. Also offering a driving range, putting green, a pro shop which offers private lessons and clinics for adults and kids, and a grill room open for breakfast and lunch. For advance reservations, call the Tee Time Reservation system (668-1234) up to two days in advance. Register your N.Y.S. Driver’s License or N.Y.S. ID and then call (668-1234) and register up to seven days in advance. A limited number of walk–on spots available on a first-come first-serve basis each morning. For those who prefer a game of miniature golf, Puff & Putt in the Village (668-4473) offers the whole family a waterfront miniature golf range.

Ride over acres of parkland and on the beach at Deep Hollow Ranch (668-2744) near Third House. Also pony rides and English and Western lessons. At Rita’s Stables, a family-operated business for 30 years, Rita Foster offers trail rides for all skill levels, special 1/2 hour rides for families and kids 5 and over, a petting farm, and pony rides. Montauk Downs State Park (668-5000) maintains six Har–Tru courts renting for $18 per hour, $8 for seniors. A pro shop offers private lessons and clinics for adults and children from mid-May through mid-September. East Hampton Town owns courts at two locations, one on South Erie near the corner of Embassy in the Village and the Montauk Racquet Club off West Lake Drive which may be open this year. Bring your own bike or rent one and take a leisurely tour of Montauk. Wide side lanes on most highways make bicycling on the East End particularly enjoyable. Mountain bikers can enjoy scenic rides over thousands of acres of parkland for the best mountain biking on Long Island. Bike trails in Hither Woods such as Talkhouse Trail and Serpent’s Back offer several levels of difficulty. For those who prefer their biking on asphalt, take your bike to Camp Hero State Park. Lovely roads curve through wooded areas passing W.W. II buildings. Running and speed walking are popular throughout the year. Over 5,000 acres of public beaches and parkland provide ample opportunity for long nature walks. The Montauk Bike Shop has information on organized runs.

his relatively new sport dates to 1978, even though its individual components are ancient; swimming, cycling, and running. In 1983 a local Montauk motel owner, fisherman, and surfer, Robert Aaron staged one of the first triathlons, The Mighty Montauk. The popular Robert Aaron Memorial Mighty Montauk Triathlon is held every June. Montauk is a perfect place for a triathlon, and several others follow, the Sprint Triathlon held in July, and the Internationally Renowned Triathlon weekend held in October; the Mighty Montauk Half Ironman on Saturday followed by the Sprint Triathlon on Sunday. Three playgrounds, one at the Montauk Public School, entry on Second House Road, one in the Village at Hank Zebrowski Park (Lion’s Field), and one in the Village corner of Essex Street and Montauk Highway, keep the young ones busy. Hither Hills State Park and the Montauk Community Church also have playgrounds.
